Winter Institute 2014
Learning is a complex phenomenon occurring at many different levels from cells inside our brains to whole societies.
In Winter Institute 2014, we featured two keynotes and two research workshops that would help us to understand learning as a network based phenomenon from neural networks to social networks.
Keynote 1
January 13, 2014
Subtheme 1※Integrating Neural, Cognitive and Pedagogical Approaches to Learning Research and Educational Intervention, ◎Keynote, ◎Winter Institute (Part of)
◎Keynote
Self-biases in perception and memory
January 13, 2014
15:00-16:30
Room CPD-3.28, Centennial Campus, The University of Hong Kong
Professor Glyn Humphreys, Oxford University
This workshop is part of Winter Institute 2014. Description There is much evidence indicating that humans are inherently self-biased, showing enhanced information processing for information relating to ourselves rather than other people. These bias effects can pervade even basic perceptual processes and are…

16:45-18:00
Room CPD-3.28, Centennial Campus, The University of Hong Kong
Professor Liaquat Hossain, The University of Hong Kong
This keynote is part of Winter Institute 2014. Description Network effects on individuals’ ability to learn better have been documented in studies based on communication, social psychology and mathematical sociology. Studies have shown that the locus of innovation is…
