Postdoctoral positions available at Nanyang Technological University

The Centre for Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS), College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University invites applications for CLASS postdoctoral/research fellowships for the Academic Year 2017.

Successful candidates will be affiliated with one or more than one of the constituent schools of the College—namely, School of Art, Design, and Media (ADM), School of Humanities (SoH), School of Social Sciences (SSS), and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI).

Applications are welcome for the themes listed below. Preference will be given to projects that cut across disciplinary boundaries in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Successful candidates are expected to begin their fellowships in July or August 2017.

Themes​

​​​​A. Global Asia:Asian history, culture, and society (e.g. political uncertainty) from a global perspective

B. ​Health and society: Healthcare issues from humanistic and social scientific perspectives
     (e.g. aging;communication; healthcare delivery)

C. Science, technology, and society

D. *Water research from sustainability, historical, and sociological viewpoints
* Appointed fellows for this theme will work jointly with the Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute.​​​

E. Humanities and Social Sciences

Prerequisites:

For appointments at the postdoctoral fellow level, applicants must possess a doctoral degree issued no more than 3 years prior to the time of application (i.e. the degree must have been obtained after Jan 1, 2014). Candidates who are finishing up their degrees must have been conferred their doctoral degrees by July 2017. For appointments at the research fellow level, we welcome candidates with advanced postdoctoral research experience.

  1. the Official Application Form​ submitted as one single document (in Microsoft Word format);
  2. the Research Staff Application Form.

 

Applicants should explore the research interests of the College’s faculty members to identify potential faculty mentors. They must state the research theme for which they are applying on the application form and demonstrate in their research plan how their expertise crosses different disciplines and relates to the theme they are applying for.

Reference letters:
​At least two reference letters, on official letterhead and signed by the referees, are to be sent directly by the referees.

The Postdoctoral and Research Fellowship (PDF) scheme offered by the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences provides support of up to two years to recent PhD graduates who demonstrate outstanding promise in research and teaching in their fields of study. By offering new scholars the opportunity to develop research publications, hone their teaching, and network with academics, the scheme serves as a bridge between the scholars’ doctoral training and their entry into faculty careers. The College’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and research and the excellent resources across the University serve to enhance the training of new scholars as interdisciplinary investigators.

The postdoctoral/research fellowships are for one year, renewable for a second year, subject to satisfactory performance. Appointed fellows may be required to assist in teaching up to the equivalent of one semester-based course per academic year.
