Abstract:

There is a rising multitasking behavior among adolescents, particularly with the increasingly use of social media. Recent studies have found that frequent multitasking with technologies (e.g., text messaging, Internet searching, emailing, Facebook and instant messaging) tended to negatively impact on students’ academic performance, learning, and executive function. However, the neurocognitive mechanism of media multitasking is not clear. This presentation will review the literature on the relationship of multitasking with learning, personality traits, and executive function and propose how to further explore the mechanism of multitasking using neuroscience methods.
